Join us in a day of challenge, fun, excitement and competition on Sunday 11th May at the 2014 Salford Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boating is an activity anyone can do, whether able bodied or disabled and as full instruction is given on the day, no previous experience is necessary. A dragon boat team involves up to seventeen people (sixteen paddlers and a drummer), the aim being for the whole team to work together in unison, paddling (and drumming) as one in order to get the boat down the course and over the finishing line as fast as possible.
Raced over a distance of around 170 meters, each team will be given three timed races during the day, which will give the teams ample time to work with the instructors and use dragon boating as a way to develop team building and their team times. Once all three qualifying races are completed, each team’s fastest single race time will be used for qualification into the Grand Final, which will be an exciting race to the finish using all the available dragon boats to determine which team will become: Dragon Boat Champions of Salford 2014
Past Events:
Dragon Boating is a sport that started in China some 2,000 years ago and came to the UK in 1996. Originally introduced as a community sports activity, it has now developed into an exciting high adrenaline team sport where teams of up to seventeen people (sixteen paddlers and a drummer) work together in unison in order to get their boat down the course and over the finishing line as fast as possible.
Dragon boating is quick to pick up, very progressive in nature and is ideal as both a charity fund raising activity and for Corporate Events / team building. The helms each have extensive dragon boating experience (often ten years or more) and each want their team to win their race!
We will take you as raw novices and after giving you your safety briefing, introduce you your first experience at dragon boating. Any concern you might have will soon change as enthusiasm and belief replace doubt. We will structure your races so you can work with the different instructors, benefiting from their various experience. Each race will see your personal skill and teamwork improve until by race three, even complete novices should be paddling with the best! It's about your team qualifying for the final and all you need is one good time!
The day finishes with an award ceremony where specially cast dragon boat medals are presented to each member of the top three teams and a special glass trophy awarded to the winning team captain.
All we can tell you with any certainty is, the day will be too much fun to simply watch! Be part of it, join today.
