Sunday 8th May 2016 is now set as the date for the next Salford Dragon Boat Festival. For those new to dragon boating, it is a team building event that is quick to pick up, progressive in nature and ideal for both experienced crews and novices alike. It is one of the reasons why so may people who watch those Racing The Dragon, realise that it is one of those events ... that is just far too much fun to simply watch!
Prior to each team's first race, there is a safety briefing where initial basic instruction and safety information will be given. Once the briefing has been completed, each team member at that briefing will be given a Race the Dragon safety wrist band and only people wearing those wrist bands will be allowed into the dragon boats.
Each team will be scheduled to compete in three qualifying heats over the course of the day, where their single fastest time only will count. (So a couple of disasters will not matter as long as you post a really good time).
What you wil be qualifying for is an opportunity to compete one last time in the Grand Final race, where first across the line will be declared Dragon Boat Champions of Salford 2016.
The event will finish with our award ceremony where team trophies are awarded to the Captain's of the top three teams and Winner's Meadals to each member of the winning team.
